The aim of this work is to study the effect of incorporation of fresh rosemary (R, Rosmarinus offinalis) and Artemisia (A, Artemisia herba alba) into the diet of rams, on some parameters of blood and seminal metabolism. Twenty four Barbarine
rams were allocated were allocated to 4 homogeneous groups of 6 rams each (Control, R, A, R-A). All rams received the same diet (500g of concentrate + 1500g of straw/head/day). Animal of experimental groups received additional 20g of rosemary
(R), 20g of Artemisia (A) and 10g of Rosemary plus 10g of Artemisia (R-A). Blood and spem were sampled every two weeks. Concentration of glucose, insulin, total protein, urea, NEFA, cortisol, ALAT, ASAT and testosterone were measured in blood and total protein, glucose and calcium in semen. Artemisia increased the level of glucose in blood with significance effect in A group (P<0.05). It was accompanied by a decrease of insulin concentration. Rams receiving MAP had higher level (p<0.05) of plasma testosterone as compared with control group. The incorporation of these MAP had an effect on the hepatic metabolism by decreasing the level of ALT in the blood (p <0.01). On the spermatic level, incorporation of these MAP in diet had no effect on the concentration of calcium and total proteins but decreased significantly sperm glucose concentration (p <0.001). In conclusion, incorporation of fresh MAP in the diet of rams has modified some traits in semen and blood. Such results could be interesting and need to develop further investigation.
